Our penultimate week of Autumn 1!

Well, what a busy week it has been this week. We have celebrated Harvest Festival with a whole-school celebration and visit from Reverend Sharon and enjoyed singing our Harvest Festival songs. A big thank you to those that brought in donations, these will be donated to Caring for Life as decided by the school council.

We had lots of fun in History where we looked at Roman society and the different roles within this. We had a role play activity where we acted as Patricians, Plebeians and Slaves and got to work out who had each role.

In Science, we applied all of our learning of the digestive system to a practical experiment. This included crushing biscuits to represent the role our mouth plays, using bananas to represent the saliva and adding orange juice as stomach acid. After this, we used tights to represent the small and large intestine to produce the waste product. The children thoroughly enjoyed getting involved with how the digestive system works!

In Writing, we focussed on double consonants and had a competition of who could think of the most words with these spelling patterns in only 3 minutes! We had some very impressive outcomes, so we look forward to seeing these in their writing.

We look forward to our Roman Workshop next week and creating our shields in DT!

Have a lovely weekend everybody.

Week 6!

4M have had another busy week this week and it has been lovely to speak with parents and carers at our Parents Evening this week and share the fantastic progress that Year 4 have been making.

This week, 4M class have been celebrating Black History Month with some exciting and meaningful learning activities! It has been a brilliant opportunity to explore influential leaders, discuss key historical moments, and reflect on why this month matters so much.

We have watched a video about Martin Luther King and about his powerful vision for equality, peaceful activism and how his famous “I Have a Dream” speech continues to inspire people around the world today. We have also had lots of lovely discussions around the achievements, culture and central role of Black individuals throughout history.

To deepen our understanding, we completed a reading comprehension activity all around Black History Month and its importance. This gave us a chance to practice our reading skills while discovering more about key historical events and inspiring stories of key individuals like Marcus Rashford, Walter Tull, Nathan Bryon and Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock.

It has been a week filled with great discussions, thoughtful questions, and valuable lessons. We’re looking forward to carrying these important conversations forward throughout the rest of the month and beyond!

Have a lovely weekend everybody!

Week 5, how time flies!

I can’t believe that we have completed five weeks of being in 4M! It has been lovely to continue to watch personalities flourish and see how the children are thriving in the Year 4 curriculum.

This week, we have had a big push with our multiplication, and we hope that our times tables are being practised as much as possible to help the children in their Maths. TT Rockstar log ins were sent out earlier in the term, but if you do need these details sent home again, please let us know. Our goal is for TTRS to be used at home as much as possible so that we can embed the learning happening at school and become TRUE times table rockstars!

We have also continued to look at how the British Values link to all aspects of our curriculum and personal development values. It has been lovely to hear such lovely oracy around how we can apply these to our day to day lives and how they are implemented in our society. In PSHE, we looked at how a Bill can be converted to a Law and how the House of Commons, House of Lords and the Monarch are significant parts in that. The children were given their own roles and we did a whole-class role play on how this would work.

We also observed the impact that our liquids had on our eggs on the eggs-periment and found that the acidic and sugary liquids had the biggest impact, helping us visualise the impact acids and sugars can have on our teeth!

Have a lovely weekend everybody!

Week 4 in 4M!

Year 4 have had a wonderful time this week.

We have voted for our School Councillor and have received lots of applications for House Leaders, Collective Worship Champions, and School Food Ambassadors so we look forward to find out who are elected!

In History, we look at our big question “What is the Roman Empire?” And began to look at how the Roman Empire expanded and which countries they controlled. We used the Atlas’s on our iPads to look at these countries and how the names have changed over time.

In Science,  we have dived headfirst into all things digestive system where we began to look at the effect of sugars and on in our teeth. We have conducted an experiment using eggs, vinegar, milk, Diet Coke and Coke to reflect the effects these can have on our teeth. We look forward to observing the results in a week’s time to see the impact these liquids have had!

A big reminder about the 500-Word Writing competition, it would be lovely to have some Year 4 entries. The deadline is 16th October!

We also enjoyed our weekly library session where children got absorbed in a range of books. Please make sure we bring back library books on a Friday so we can either re-scan them or swap it for a new book.

Have a lovely weekend everybody!

High fives and highlights!

4M have had a full week of learning this week and have been so impressive with all their knowledge and dancing in PE!

We had a fantastic time in our library session, children explored different genres of their books and had a great time getting lost in their chosen stories and books. Remember: There is an exciting opportunity to enter a BBC 500-Word Writing Competition, these can be written or typed up and printed or emailed and is a fantastic opportunity for children to show off their fascinating imaginations. All entries can be emailed to the office or given to Mrs Whitely and must have the child’s name and class written on it. The deadline for this is October 16th. Happy writing 4M!

The children embraced their inner artists as we began our Art projects that link beautifully with our learning all about the Roman’s. We have been designing our shields based on which patterns we felt inspired by when looking at traditional Roman shields.

We also focussed our learning in History on the story of Romulus and Remus, and the children had wonderful discussions around which stories could be myths and which are real!

In Writing, we began to our first action write using our toolkit, making sure that we used fronted adverbials, prepositions, adjectives and descriptive phrases, punctuation and show not tell. We can’t wait to continue our story writing next week!

Have a fantastic weekend everybody!

What a week!

4M have had a wonderful time and have delved deeper into our curriculum by exploring more about our upcoming Roman’s topics, our Science topic all about The Digestive System and finishing up our self-portraits ahead of our whole-school display.

Year 4 have settled in beautifully and I look forward to another exciting week ahead! Well done for being resilient, resourceful and reflective learners, you are all super stars!

The first (fantastic) three days in 4M!

Well done to 4M for a fantastic first week back! We have had many conversations that have helped us to get to know each other and they have shown me exactly how ACE they really are!

We have been lucky enough to pick some apples from the orchard and played multiplication games including times table bingo, would you rather and silent line-up!

4M have also shown their true artistic flare by taking part in a whole-school Art project where we began to draw our self-portraits ahead of the upcoming school display, designed their own jigsaw puzzles and their dream classrooms (unfortunately the well-requested slush-puppy stations won’t be implemented by Monday!).

At the end of year 4, children will complete their multiplication check so doing just 10 minutes a day will really help them become multiplication masters! We also encourage children to read three times a week and will have reading books going out from Monday.

I hope you have a lovely weekend everybody and rest ahead of another busy week! It has been a pleasure to meet you all this week and look forward to a fantastic year.
